No Tax Break For Trumps' D.C. Hotel

The Trump family wants to turn the historic Old Post Office Pavilion into a luxury hotel.

D.C. officials will require Donald Trump's organization to pay millions in local property taxes to redevelop the Old Post Office Pavilion into a luxury hotel.

Trump and his daughter Ivanka Trump inquired about whether the District would forego the taxes to faciliate the development, but D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray and members of the D.C. Council decided not to give the tax break to the wealthy Trump family.

Spokesman for the mayor says it would not have been fair to offer the Trumps a tax break.

The Old Post Office Pavilion is federal property that the Trump organization plans to lease to build a 261-room hotel, spa and restaurants.

D.C. has a special tax for private entities operating within federal buildings. Union Station lease holders have challenged the tax.
