Freezing rain and sleet have caused icy conditions throughout the region this morning.
A wintry mix of precipitation is causing a messy commute and leading to delays for schools and workers across the Washington and Baltimore regions.
The federal government will open late Monday due to the winter weather. The Office of Personnel Management is advising employees to stay off the roads until 10 a.m.; federal government offices will open to the public at noon.
Some school districts in the region are closed — including Arlington, Fauquier and Loudoun county school systems in Virginia and Clarke County in Maryland. Drivers should use caution during the Monday morning commute, according to local highway officials. Highway crews will be out before commuters hit the roads, but icy conditions will still be possible.
