A longtime Maryland legislator has died after being pulled from a fire in her Prince George's County home last week.

A spokesman for the Prince George's County fire department says 83-year-old Christine M. Jones died over the weekend at a Baltimore hospital. She was found Thursday following a fire in her Temple Hills home.

Jones represented Prince George's County in the House of Delegates from 1982 to 1994. In her final year, she was the assistant floor leader for House Democrats.  Jones also had a 30-year career as a teacher and educator in the Prince George's County school system. She specialized in physical education.

A cause for the fire at her home has yet to be determined.
