As a part of the American Graduate program, Kavitha Cardoza, WAMU 88.5 education reporter, produced a series of pieces examining the dropout crisis in D.C. Cardoza interviews teachers, parents, researchers, and dropouts as she looks at the causes and consequences of the dropout problem, which affects approximately 1 million students each year and has been called "the civil rights issue of our time."

A 3-D printer is being credited with helping save an Ohio baby's life, after doctors "printed" a tube to support a weak airway that caused him to stop breathing. The innovative procedure has allowed Kaiba Gionfriddo, of Youngstown, Ohio, to stay off a ventilator for more than a year.
