Moran Calling On Debt Ceiling To Be Abolished

Play associated audio

Many Republicans don't want to increase the government's borrowing authority unless they get an equal amount of spending cuts. That risks defaulting on debt obligations for the first time in the nation's history. Moran says the GOP is going too far.

"What was once a mere legislative relic has now been weaponized," says Moran.

Moran and other Democrats are pushing a proposal to do away with the debt ceiling. He says it would help the economy in the region.

"The business community is very much behind getting rid of this source of constant crisis," says Moran. "They need predictability."

Republicans are singing a different tune. They say Democrats won't get serious about the growing national debt unless forced.
