E-ZPass violators in Maryland have racked up nearly $7 million in unpaid tolls for the past 5 years, according to state transportation officials.

Maryland transportation officials are facing a big problem with E-ZPass: it's too easy to pass without paying.

The agency is pushing for legislation in Annapolis that would ticket drivers who go through E-ZPass tollbooths without electronic devices, as well as those who ignore the fines they receive in the mail as a consequence

The proposal would slap a $50 civil citation and suspend the registration of repeat E-ZPass violators. Those violators have racked up nearly $7 million in unpaid tolls for the past 5 years, according to state transportation officials.
