Jan. 18: To Know a Veil: Peeling Back the Layers of our Cultural Femininity
Modesty and femininity are relative terms that can be broadly defined depending on whom you ask. Tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. you can visit Hillyer Art Space to witness an experimental project directed by Emma Jaster, whose presentation, To Know a Veil: Peeling Back the Layers of our Cultural Femininity, explores how women cover and reveal themselves. This fashion and performance art event features burquas, bikinis, and six scandalous ways to wear a sari.
Jan. 18: Piano Battle
You can open your ears and leave your expectations at the door tonight, as the Goethe-Institut Washington presents Piano Battle at the Embassy of Austria. World-renowned pianists Andreas Kern and Paul Cibis will engage in a battle of the keys as they perform a variety of classical works. After the concert, the audience will decide which musician came out on top.
