The railyard at the New Carrollton Metro station was the scene of derailment Saturday.

A Metro train derailed at a rail yard in New Carrollton on Saturday.

According to Metro, there was a low-speed derailment within New Carrollton Yard at about 2 a.m. Saturday. No one was injured.

A statement released by the transit agency says repairs to the track, third rail and switch equipment were made over the weekend and the yard is operating normally again.

The cause of the derailment remains under investigation and — the statement says — it would be premature to estimate the dollar value of the damage to the tracks and rail cars. A damage assessment is ongoing.

Metro is not providing any information about what consequences, if any, the train operator will face for this mishap.
