A tragic accident last evening that snarled traffic at the Springfield Mixing Bowl intersection in Virginia has claimed the lives of three people, according to the Associated Press.
Virginia State police say an elderly Pennsylvania man was behind the wheel of a pickup truck that rear-ended a tractor-trailer on Interstate 495 killing him and his two passengers.
The victims, 87-year-old Peter Stesney, 85-year-old Bernice Supinski and 51-year-old Laura Kordelski who are all related and from Pennsylvania, were on their way to Florida for the funeral of another relative. Stesney and Kordelski were from Allentown, Penn. and Supinski was from Bath, Penn.
The crash on the ramp from the Capital Beltway to southbound Interstate 95 at the Springfield interchange closed the ramp for about eight hours.
