Counties and cities in the D.C. area offer different plans for transporting and recycling live Christmas trees, wreaths and garlands. Many will pick them up on regular trash and recycling routes.

Some, including Montgomery and Prince George's Counties in Maryland, as well as the city of Alexandria in Virginia, will use those trees to create mulch available to residents in the spring.

Counties urge residents to remove bags, stands, lights and decorations from trees before pick up or drop off. They also encourage residents to consider backyard composting.
