Local Faith Leaders Weigh In On Fiscal Cliff

Local faith leaders met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill today to highlight priorities in addressing the fiscal cliff.

"We're here to stand with those low-income families and seniors in our communities who are suffering already and helping to bring that message to Congress that we don't need to harm them any further by any legislation that might make them suffer more," said Sister Kristin Matthis.

The group traveled to the capitol in a big yellow bus with a sign on the side reading: "Rabbis, Imams, Pastors, and Nuns." The interfaith group is looking to highlight the moral issues at stake in the debate over the fiscal cliff.

"We need a more equitable and just tax system for all Americans," says Rabbi Esther Lederman. "And that the time is now to do something. We're in a crisis situation, and we as the faith community have the power and want the strength of the United States government to look at our government as a moral document."
