The National Cathedral will play host to the National Prayer Service in January.

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will take part in a National Prayer Service at the National Cathedral the day after Inauguration Day.

Presidents have held National Prayer Services since the days of George Washington. The service will include prayers, readings, blessings and hymns delivered by religious leaders from across the country and from different faiths.

A National Cathedral spokeswoman says the prayer service will mark President Obama's second term with the acknowledgement and celebration of the role of people of faith in American life.

The service will start at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday January 22, the day after President Obama's public inauguration ceremony. Mr. Obama will officially begin his second term at noon on Sunday Jan. 20, in a private ceremony at the White House.

The National Prayer Service is an invite-only event requiring tickets, but it will be webcast live at 2013pic.org for anyone to see.
