The son of Virginia Democratic Congressman Jim Moran pleaded guilty Wednesday to assaulting his girlfriend in an incident in the District earlier this month.

According to the police report, Patrick Moran and his girlfriend were arguing outside of the nightclub The Getaway, because he had been talking to another girl inside. Then, according to the report, Patrick was observed grabbing his girlfriend by her hair and throwing her face first into a metal cage on a trash can outside the club.

Her hospital records aren't public, but a first responder told police they believed her nose was broken and that her right eye socket may have been fractured. The police report was published by Washington City Paper.

Patrick Moran was initially charged with felony domestic violence assault, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of assault. The couple claims it was an accident.

Congressman Moran put out a statement saying:  "They're both good kids and they look forward to putting this embarrassing situation behind them."

Earlier this year, Patrick Moran resigned from his father's campaign after an undercover conservative operative recorded him appearing to offer advice on how to commit voter fraud.
