As fiscal cliff negotiations continue on Capitol Hill, some people are looking for ways to break up the monotony of the process. While we await signs of any progress, Elahe Izadi — a reporter for National Journal and a former WAMU blogger — took to Twitter to solicit fiscal cliff haiku. Surprisingly enough, it turns out that there were quite a few poetic policy wonks in the District. Izadi received dozens of responses in the 5-7-5 syllable form, and explains some of her favorites.

WAMU staff and reporters were also eager to take up the challenge.

Morning Edition anchor and reporter Matt McCleskey is a news hound to his core:

Heading for the cliff...
Will we jump or will we stop?
Either way it's news!

Jerad Walker, a production coordinator with WAMU Bluegrass Country, recalls a famous cliff-based couple:

Barack and Boehner
Driving U.S. off cliff like
Thelma and Louise

Chris Chester, on the web team, knew about the fiscal cliff before it was cool:

Hipster wonks recall
When the fiscal cliff was still
Called sequestration

Michael Pope, always bringing it back to his beat in Northern Virginia:

Whatever happens
The transient lodging tax
Is forseen to spike

The fiscal cliff is tangible in Susan Thomas' household:

Fiscal cliff has caused
spouse's frozen salary
Cut wages cause pain.
