Amtrak Adds Service From Norfolk To D.C.

Residents of Norfolk will now be able to take a five-hour trip to Union Station.

A major military hub in Virginia is getting train service to Washington D.C. for the first time in more than three decades.

The first Amtrak passenger train from Norfolk, Va., in 35 years rolled into Union Station at 9:44 a.m. this morning.

Amtrak officials are hoping the new inter-city service will be popular with Norfolk's military community, made up of active duty service members, retired military and military families.

On weekdays, trains will leave Norfolk's Harbor Park Station at 4:50 a.m. and on weekends at 6:05 a.m. The trip lasts almost five hours and discounts will be available for vets, active duty military and their families, senior citizens and AAA members.
