Virginia's Annual Pesticide Disposal Program Continues

More than 42,000 pounds of unwanted pesticides have been collected in Virginia this year, as part of the state's annual Pesticide Disposal Program.

Each year, selected cities allow residents to bring dangerous chemicals to a central location where the waste is packaged and eventually destroyed. It's a service that gives agricultural producers and pesticide users a break from the high cost of disposing the chemicals.

Since the program began in 1990, more than a million pounds of pesticides have been collected.

This year 18 counties and five cities, primarily in central and southern Virginia, participated.
