Jose Luis Rodriguez-Nunez, 24, is charged with second-degree murder and related offenses in connection with the death of a 14-year-old boy in Lewisdale early Wednesday morning, reports the Washington Post.

Prince George's County and Hyattsville police say Rodriguez-Nunez, of the 5800 block of 30th Avenue, was driving a van from where shots were fired toward a group of people, that included the 14-year-old teen, Eliezer Benjamin Reyes, who was dead.

According to the Washington Post, Reyes was shot just after midnight as he was walking with a group in the 2200 block of Sheridan Street. The group included members of the gang known as the Lewisdale Crew.

The suspects in the van belong to a rival gang, known as Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13. The van was stopped minutes after the murder, but several people fled the vehicle, leaving only Rodriguez-Nunez to be captured.

Police have moved quickly to ensure the shooting does not escalate into further gang-related violence.

MS-13 is very active in this portion of Maryland, engaging in drug trafficking, prostitution, and the extortion of small Latino businesses.

Prince George's County police say they're still looking for more suspects related to the drive-by shooting, and are investigating each person's role in the incident.
