Intelsat, a satellite services provider, plans to move its U.S. headquarters from Washington, D.C. to Fairfax County. More than 400 employees will move into Tysons Tower, occupying the 14th to the 20th floors of the tallest building in Tysons Corner, a short walk from the new Silver Line Metro station.
Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell approved a $1.3 million grant from the Governor's Opportunity Fund to help Fairfax County land the new tech headquarters. And the Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide funding and services to support the company's recruitment, training and retraining activities.
Leaders at the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority say they are delighted to diversify the economy in Northern Virginia, while government contracting in other industry segments has slowed.
