Ocean City's beach replenishment project earned high praise as the U.S. Senate Environmental and Public Works Committee discussed Hurricane Sandy's impact on the East Coast.
The super storm caused tens of billions of dollars in damages on the East Coast, but in Ocean City, the damage was relatively minimal, and just a little over a half a million dollars.
Much of the damage that Sandy and many other storms could have caused over the years didn't happened because of the levee-like sand dune system created during beach replenishment.
But a bit farther south in Somerset County, the storm's damage is approaching $40 million, with towns like Crisfield now dealing with hundreds of homeless residents after flooding, and mold rendered their houses unlivable.
Both Harris and Cardin are urging the federal government to get involved now and provide assistance to homeowners in Crisfield and throughout Somerset County.
