Santa Claus is in demand. The Virginia Railway Express sold out tickets for its "Santa Train'' rides in less than five minutes today.

More than 3,600 tickets for the kid-friendly ride sold out in four minutes on the VRE website. A few other locations that sell the $5 tickets were also sold out or close to it.

The rides take place Dec. 8, 2012, on 11 trains featuring names like Rudolph Express. Parents and their children meet Santa and Mrs. Claus, and get candy canes and coloring books while high school choral groups sing.

Proceeds go to Operation Lifesaver, a nonprofit that works to prevent accidents around train tracks.
