More than 9,000 people from the Washington, D.C. Metro area will travel 50 miles or more during this Thanksgiving holiday, according to AAA Mid Atlantic. The good news for those hitting the road is that gas prices are lower than usual right now and will continue to drop.

The national average price for a gallon of regular self-serve gas dropped to $3.43, which is .03 cents lower than a week ago, but .33 cents less expensive than a month ago.

In Washington, D.C., that price is $3.53, and in the Metro area, it's $3.41. AAA Mid Atlantic says the price will continue to go down through the end of the year.
