Cards will soon be dealt at the Maryland Live! Casino as they move forward with plans to introduce table games.
The gaming wars in Maryland are heating up. Officials at the Maryland Live! Casino have announced plans to reconfigure their casino floor to make way for table games like blackjack.
The casino in Arundel Mills already accounts for more than 70 percent of gambling revenues in the state. That number may well go up, as they reconfigure the casino floor to allow for the addition of 150 table games.
Maryland voters approved the gambling expansion by a narrow margin on Election Day. It was part of a deal that paved the way for the construction of a new Las Vegas style casino in Prince George's County.
Maryland Live! owner David Cordish says he's not concerned about the new competition.
"We're the dominant casino, to put it mildly," says Cordish. "We know how to compete. We have world-class facilities. We'll compete."
Cordish says he will add 1,200 new workers for his $40 million expansion. That includes positions for 800 dealers, who will be trained at free courses, and get paid while they learn when to hold them and when to fold them.
