The Kennedy Center is reopening its Theater Lab tonight after a five-month, $7.5 million renovation.
The relaunch, which begins at 6 p.m., will feature a performance of music and poetry. The show will feature jazz vocalist Gregory Porter and poets Holly Bass, Mahogany Browne, Vanessa Hidary and Kelly Zen-Yie Tsai, according to the Associated Press.
This is the fifth of the center's seven theaters to be renovated since 1997 and the Theater Lab now boasts the Kennedy Center's only thrust stage. Its bench seating has been replaced with a new configuration of just under 400 permanent seats upholstered in red and orange.
Now that's it's open, the long-running production "Shear Madness" will continue its 25-year run in the Theater Lab. The theater will also feature free performances from the Millennium Stage series.
