Fairfax County Looks To Streamline Voting Process

The final vote in Fairfax County wasn't cast until 10:30 p.m., and Chairman Sharon Bulova, who sits on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, says that's unacceptable.

"I believe that we should create a bipartisan commission looking at ways to address the long wait times, the long lines, and altogether just streamlining our election process," she says.

While the Board of Supervisors can't make any changes to the electoral process, they can make recommendations to groups that do, like the State Board of Elections.

Bulova says coming up with solutions is particularly important because Fairfax County has such a high voter turnout.

"We had a larger number of registered voters this year in 2012 than we did four years ago," she says. "The number increased by about 72,000 people. Of those registered voters, we had a larger turnout. And that was 80.5 percent."

The Chairman says no voter should have to wait over an hour to cast his or her ballot.
