A clean sweep in Ocean City has ushered in a new city council majority in the one of the largest voter turnouts in town history.
Former city manager Dennis Dare took a victory lap in Ocean City alongside his block of running mates: incumbents Doug Cymek and Mary Knight as well as former city council president Joe Mitrecic as they all won seats on the Ocean City council by a sizeable margin.
Dare was let go a year ago by the council majority after 29 years of service, but he was the top vote getter last night — as Ocean City voters granted him vindication for his controversial dismissal.
"When so many people come out and they put their faith in your to help run their town, it's an overwhelming feeling," says Mitrecic. "I'll smile about this for the next three days."
Incumbents Joe Hall and Jim Hall were both ousted from the council by huge margins, indicating a convincing voter mandate for the direction of Ocean City.
On another note, Ocean City general employees quest to be unionized was squashed by a 2 to 1 margin.
