Maryland saw an increase in the number of early voters this year.

Nearly twice as many Marylanders voted early this year compared with the gubernatorial election in 2010.

Published reports claim slightly more than 430,000 Maryland voters cast ballots by the time the polls closed for early voting Friday night. That works out to be 11.6 percent of eligible voters.

Some lawmakers say they'll push to keep polls open even longer for early voting in the future. Some want to see wait times reduced to 15 minutes or less.

Early voting was scheduled to run from last Saturday through Thursday. But Gov. O'Malley closed voting centers Monday and Tuesday because of the storm. He later extended voting hours and added voting on Friday to make up the time.

The state opened 46 locations for early voting. That includes at least one in every county.
