A Massachusetts man has been sentenced to 17 years for attempting to blow up the U.S. Capitol.

A Massachusetts man is sentenced for his role in a plot to blow up the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol using a remote-controlled model plane.

Rezwan Ferdaus, 27, faces 17 years in prison after being sentenced in federal court. He was arrested last year after federal employees posing as members of Al-Qaida delivered materials he requested, including items he thought were grenades, machine guns and plastic explosives.

Ferdaus testified in court that he was plotting to use those materials to damage and destroy federal buildings.

Authorities say the public was never in danger because the explosives were always under the control of federal agents.
