The Potomac River flooded into the Washington Harbor complex in Georgetown in April.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service predict the Potomac River will probably start flooding Tuesday night. The predict rain dumped by Hurricane Sandy will be the worst since 1996, that's when melting snow from a blizzard caused the Potomac to overflow.

The flood zone will occur between Hancock, MD and the District and is expected to last through the week. Several low-lying monuments are in the zone along the River including the Jefferson Memorial and the new Martin Luther King Memorial. National Park Service Spokesperson Carol Johnson say those monuments are not at risk since they're designed to withstand rising water.
