There are more than 100,000 homes without power in our region due to Hurricane Sandy, and so far Pepco has fared well.
"For the District of Columbia, right now, we have about 4,500 customers out, for Montgomery County, we have just under 10,000 customers out, and in Prince George's County we have about 47,000 customers out, so that's a total of about 19,000 customers out," said Pepco spokeswoman Myra Oppell.
In Virginia, Dominion Power is reporting 126,000 outages. Baltimore Gas and Electric has over 50,000 customers without power.
Utility officials say until the winds slow to 35 mph or less, crews can't use bucket trucks for repairs. They are urging anyone who sees a downed wire to immediately contact their utility company.
