Woman Attacked While Jogging On Capital Crescent Trail

Police in Montgomery County are looking for a suspect in the latest attack along a popular biking and jogging trail, according to the Associated Press.

The Capital Crescent Trail, which runs from Georgetown in D.C. to Bethesda and Silver Spring in Maryland, is heavily traveled by joggers, bikers and people looking to stroll through nature. Last night, however, it was also the scene of a violent attack.

A 21-year-old woman was struck on the back of the head around 7 p.m. while jogging about half a mile south of Massachusetts Avenue in the Bethesda area. When she regained consciousness, she found that she had been dragged off to a wooded portion of the trail. Montgomery County Police are treating the attack as a possible sexual assault. The assailant was seen fleeing the scene on a bicycle with a basket on front.

The past few months has seen a spike in attacks on the trail, including three attempted robberies near the Wisconsin Avenue tunnel.
