Ocean City Police Chief Steps Down, Moves To Florida

Play associated audio

Chief Bernadette DiPino is heading south after 10 years at the helm of the Ocean City Police Department.

DiPino started her career in Baltimore County before coming to Ocean City in 1988, and she quickly moved up the ranks before being named the town's first female chief in 2002.

But now, as DiPino eyes Florida as the next and perhaps the last stop in her career, the town of Ocean City is left to deal with yet another high-ranking official either retiring or leaving the resort.

In the past two years, the city has had to replace several department heads including the city manager, Convention Center director, and the tourism director.

City Council members have hinted at the idea of a replacement to come from within the department in the interim, but most likely, the town will opt for a national search for a permanent replacement.
