Area Church Group Accused Of Hiding Child Abuse

Three female plaintiffs are claiming in a lawsuit that a Maryland church group covered up allegations of sexual abuse against children.

The suit alleges Sovereign Grace Ministries failed to protect children from being sexually abused by church members in incidents dating back to the mid-1980s, in both Maryland and Northern Virginia.

Sovereign Grace is a large, multi-congregation church, founded in 1982, with about 100 locations mostly in the U.S.

The plaintiffs claim church leaders did not report accusations of misconduct to the police and even, offered legal advice to members suspected of being pedophiles.

A spokesman for Sovereign Grace Ministries says while it is aware of the report of the lawsuit, it has not seen any filing and has no comment on the matter.
