The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene announced Saturday that it had confirmed the third case related to the meningitis outbreak, reports the Associated Press. The patient developed meningitis after receiving a steroid injection in September.

The agency is not releasing any specific information about the patient.

Two other Maryland cases had been previously confirmed, and one patient has died.

Nationwide, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the outbreak has spread to more than 60 people across nine states. The outbreak has been linked to a steroid produced by a specialty pharmacy in Massachusetts.

The steroid has since been recalled.
