The Major League Baseball playoffs start today, and beginning this season, a second wild card playoff spot will be added in each league, with those two teams playing a one-game playoff to start the post-season.

The first set of those games is today, and the Baltimore Orioles visit the Texas Rangers this evening in the American League contest. The O's dropped 5 of the 7 regular season match-ups between the two. First pitch in Arlington, Texas is set for 8:30 p.m. If the Orioles win, they'll host the New York Yankees Sunday in Game 1 of the divisional playoff round.

Meanwhile, the Washington Nationals, thanks to their Major League Baseball best 98 wins during the regular season will face the winner of today's National League one-game wild card playoff between the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals. That game starts just after 5 p.m. in Atlanta.

The Nats went 10-8 against the Braves during the regular season, and 4-3 against the Cardinals. The Nationals first playoff game will be Sunday on the road.
