There are new regulations for scooter and moped riders in Maryland.
Scooters have become one of the preferred means of transportation in Ocean City, especially during the summer months when hundreds of thousands of cars create constant gridlock on the resort's main traffic artery, Coastal Highway.
But some scooter riders are less than thrilled with the law, which now requires every scooter on Maryland roads to be registered through the Motor Vehicle Association, and carry insurance.
Ocean City Police spokesman Mike Levy says departments statewide will likely relax the enforcement of the title registration on all scooters for at least 30 days, because the MVA didn't set up online registration options in enough time to get scooter riders their required sticker.
However, Levy says that starting Monday, scooter riders in Maryland, especially those in Ocean City, better have their helmets and goggles on, as well as proof of insurance. Violators will be fined of up to $500.
