A Maryland teenager remains seriously injured after she was struck by a police cruiser after a high school football game in Montgomery County.

The accident happened Friday night near Watkins Mill High School in Gaithersburg. Police say the 15-year-old student was struck when she stepped into the roadway between two moving police cars responding to a fight that broke out shortly after the football game ended.

In a statement Watkins Mill Principal Scott Murphy says the 10th grade girl is in stable condition, is alert and talking to doctors. Murphy adds the fight took place off school property.

Montgomery County police identified the officer involved in the collision as Cpl. Raymond Bennett. He has been placed on leave during an investigation.
