The Ocean City Council voted to lift a 30-year-old skateboarding ban in the city.

Skateboarding will no longer be a crime in Ocean City, as the council voted 6 to 1 to allow riders on the city's streets and boardwalk starting Oct. 2.

However, pulling tricks and grinding on the city's infrastructure will still be prohibited, so Tony Hawk wannabes are being told to keep their wheels on the ground.

Dozens of kids and their parents poured out of City Hall with smiles on their faces this week, after hearing the council decide that skateboarding should be regulated under the same rules that bicyclists must follow.

The skateboarding community is reportedly planning a kickoff event on the boards on Oct. 2 for the first legal communal ride in Ocean City in more than 30 years.
