The Monocacy Scenic River Citizens Advisory Board is holding a contest to name six unnamed tributaries of the stream in Carroll and Frederick counties.

Board Chairman Brian Cronin says it's a way to engage people in caring about the river.

The board will accept nominations through the end of the year on its website.

The winning suggestions will be forwarded to the U.S. Geological Survey, the official keeper of geographical names.
