Prince George's County Begins Redevelopment Efforts

Crews in Prince George's County are preparing to demolish 26 vacant apartment buildings in the Coral Hills area today for redevelopment.

The razing is part of County Executive Rushern Baker's Transforming Neighborhood Initiative, an effort that aims to revitalize six neighborhoods in the county that face significant economic, health, public safety and educational challenges.

"The property will be redeveloped in accordance with the county executive's order," says Linda Turner, who is with the executive's office.

Since the site began undergoing demolition in preparation for construction, it has become a public safety hazard. The area is surrounded by chain-link fencing, however, that hasn't deterred people from loitering and creating havoc around the area.
