Virginia Working To Ensure Every Vote Is Counted

Play associated audio

With Virginia expected to play a key role in the upcoming presidential election, the State Board of Elections is trying to ensure every vote is counted, including those of military personnel who can't make it to the polls.

The SBE held a federal postcard application open house in which 45 members of the military from throughout Virginia attended. The SBE's absentee coordinator, Terry Wagoner, says although troops were assured that they could easily have ballots emailed or mailed out to them, there was another concern.

"The concerns are getting them back," says Wagoner. "They have to be mailed back by post."

Ballots will be mailed out no later than Sept. 22, but she urges those voters to mail them back immediately so that they're received by the 7 p.m. Election Day deadline.
