The funeral for a fallen Prince George's County police officer brought fellow officers, family and friends to Woodstream Church in Mitchellville, Md., this morning. Bagpipes wailed a mournful dervish as 23-year-old police officer Adrian Morris was given a hero's sendoff.

"I have the human side, which weeps, which mourns for the loss of my friend, my brother," said Officer Michael Owens, speaking to the assembled crowd. "And then there is the spiritual side of me that rejoices, because he has moved on. So, I'm going to need you guys to forgive me if the human side comes out."

A thin blue line of more than a thousand brothers and sisters in arms swelled by officers all over the Northeast stood in painful solidarity. The time-honored rituals reserved for those who make the ultimate sacrifice when they choose to serve and protect the rest of us.

Morris died last week when the police cruiser he was driving plunged off the road while he was engaged in a high-speed pursuit of two suspected car thieves.

He was a veteran of two and a half years. He was raised in Prince George's County after having emigrated from Jamaica in his youth. He officially became a U.S. citizen in 2009.

Morris will be buried at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville, Md, tomorrow morning.
