Virginia Firefighters Raise Funds To Help Family Of Fallen Marine

The small community of Altavista in Virginia is coming together to honor a fallen marine, and give his family a hand.

Staff Sgt. Gregory Copes died last week in Afghanistan. The 36-year-old marine leaves behind his wife and four young kids; the oldest is only six years old.

"There's going to be a lot of expenses down the road, and I'm sure they're going to need some assistance," says Rob Finch, who is arranging the funeral, but also wanted to do something more to help the family. "However little it might be, we want to help them in some way."

Firefighters are teaming up with Finch's funeral home to raise money for the family. They'll be selling Livestrong-style bracelets tonight at community events like the high school football game.

The Marine Corps Times reports Copes was shot and killed during an inauguration ceremony for local Afghani police he helped train.

It's Boom Times For Pop-Up Shops As Mobile Shopping Clicks

One-click online shopping is changing how we shop. Stores with leases as short as a day are proliferating — meaning a storefront can be a designer clothing store one day and a test kitchen the next.
