Play associated audio

Plans for the Republican and Democratic National Conventions are being revealed little by little, and several politicians from Maryland and Virginia will have a chance to grab the national spotlight.

The governors of Maryland and Virginia will each speak at his party's respective convention. Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell will address the Republican National Convention next week in Tampa, Fla. Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley will take the stage at the Democratic National Convention the following week in Charlotte, NC.

Both men are playing increasingly high-profile roles in national campaigns. O'Malley is chairman of the Democratic Governors Association and McDonnell chairs the Republican Governors Association.

Two other Virginians will take the stage. Artur Davis is one of them. He's a former Democratic Congressman from Alabama who has more recently moved to Virginia and changed party allegiances. Former Virginia Governor and current U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine will speak at the DNC.
