Gray Campaign Improperly Used Public Housing Data

DC's Housing Authority says it's investigating how Mayor Vincent Gray's 2010 campaign obtained an unauthorized database of public housing residents that was used to target voters.

The campaign used the database of 6,000 public housing residents, which including personal and contact information, to reach out to voters who would support Gray over then-Mayor Adrian Fenty, according to a Washington Post report, which would violate local and federal laws.

A spokeswoman for the Housing Authority says strong disciplinary action will be taken if it turns out a staff member unlawfully turned the list over to the Gray campaign.

It's been one scandal after another for Mayor Vincent Gray and his 2010 campaign, which is under federal investigation. Three campaign aides have already pleaded guilty to various crimes. Earlier this month, Jeanne Clarke Harris, a former campaign aide, admitted in court to helping orchestrate an off-the-books shadow campaign. That revelation led several D.C. Council Members to call for Gray's resignation.

Prosecutors have not charged Gray with any wrongdoing and there's no evidence Gray knew about the shadow campaign or other illicit campaign activities during the race.
