Besides this truck in Bethesda, there are only six mobile Bank of American ATM vehicles nationwide.

From a distance, a large red vehicle with a satellite sticking out its top in Bethesda may look a little intimidating. Upon stepping a little closer, however, passersby are able to see what it really is: a mobile ATM vehicle plastered with the logo of Bank of America displayed on all sides of the truck.

When the strong storm that passed through the region June 29 knocked out power to much of the region, all kinds of automated services that run on electricity went out as well: gas stations, businesses' credit card swiping machines, and yes, ATMs. It was a tough blow for people, because many shops that actually were open were only able to take cash.

"The bank lost [its] power, the ATM's were down, so we brought this down here so that people could get at their money while there was no power," said Matt Campbell, who set up the Bank of America ATM vehicle on the corner of Democracy Boulevard and Old Georgetown Road near the bank's Bethesda branch. It's been helping customers access their accounts until the bank's power is restored.

This vehicle is only available in three other states: Massachusetts, Florida and California, according to Campbell.
