Damaged utility pole continues to lean and presents a danger to businesses along Wisconsin Avenue NW.
A damaged utility pole on the 4900 block of Wisconsin Avenue NW is leaning at about a 30 degree angle, presenting a danger between Tenleytown and Friendship Heights.
Police officers were redirecting traffic from the District to Bethesda on Wisconsin Avenue NW between Ellicot Street NW and Fessenden Street NW. Incoming traffic from Bethesda was narrowed to one lane in that same area.
The pole was damaged in last weeks' major storm, and only recently started to lean. If the pole comes down it will bring down live wires and a transformer. The biggest threat, however, is to the Shell gas station approximately 100 feet away which is still operating. Police officers are trying to get in contact with the owner of the Shell to close it until the situation is resolved.
The damaged pole is also located near PKP Engineers, The Washington Trophy Center, Casa Del Sol Tanning Center and Happy Paws Spa and Boutique for Dogs.
