WSSC Issues Water Restrictions Montgomery And Prince George's Co.

Friday night's severe thunderstorm knocked out power to millions of residents in the D.C. metro area, including the power at two filtration plants used to replenish water in Montgomery and Prince George's Counties.

As a result, the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission has issued a mandatory water restriction for residents and businesses in those two counties. The restrictions have severely affected local businesses in the area.

Massimo Quartararo, the co-owner of Eyma Salon and Spa on Woodmont Avenue in Bethesda says the restrictions will be a major problem for his business because the stylists won't be able to wash hair.

"Today, we're probably going to lose about $7,000, and it's so unfortunate that this had to happen on a Saturday, which is our busiest day," says Quartararo.

WSSC is telling all residents and businesses in Montgomery and Prince George's Counties to limit their water until power is restored. The water commission says they need to preserve the water for firefighters and medical emergencies.
