Fans braved the triple-digit temperatures to take in the second round of the AT&T National golf tournament at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda Friday.
The most popular place on the course was on whatever hole tournament host Tiger Woods was playing this morning. Even when he hit this errant tee shot on the first hole.
Nearby, maybe the second most popular spot on the course was in front of the misting fans. They were just one of many ways fans tried to avoid the heat, because there was no staying cool anywhere on the course. There was a heat advisory in effect as the temperatures reached a June record of 104 degrees.
Marshals at each hole kept reminding fans to stay hydrated.
"Beer does not count for hydration," said one marshal.
Possibly the only person who said they weren't affected by the heat was Tiger Woods himself, who shot a three under par round to get himself on the upper part of the leaderboard.
"I live in Florida," said Woods. "It's not quite this hot, but it's more humid than this everyday."
Tiger Woods home in Jupiter, Florida is almost a thousand miles south from here, but even he admits Bethesda is hotter.
