Beltway Construction Affects Traffic

Play associated audio

Drivers are once again being asked this weekend to avoid the outer loop of the Capital Beltway near the Woodrow Wilson Bridge because of ongoing construction.

All weekend, weather permitting, the thru lanes on the outer loop will be closed approaching Alexandria. Only one local lane will carry traffic for a stretch between Van Dorn Street and Telegraph Road. Through that area, the outer loop is also I-95 north for all traffic heading up the Eastern seaboard.

To help ease congestion, northbound traffic on I-95 is being directed at the Springfield mixing bowl onto either I-395 or onto the inner loop of the Beltway across the American Legion Bridge. Similar work on the inner loop earlier this month caused traffic backups for several miles.
