One of the nation's most politically-active labor unions is targeting voters in Virginia. The Service Employees International Union will focus its resources on turning out voters in Virginia, one of eight battleground states it has identified as crucial in its effort to reelect President Barack Obama.

In 2008, the union targeted twice as many states.

The 2.1 million-member union also hopes to get 100,000 of its members to volunteer in its political program. Other than Virginia, targeted states are Colorado, Florida, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — each considered crucial for an Obama victory.

The union is expected to spend at least $85 million to help Obama win, similar to what it spent in 2008.
